Computer Science Undergraduate Study Program in collaboration with BMKG in Recognizing Disasters in North Sumatra Based on AI-Based Geo-Hydrometerology Multi-Disaster

Computer Science Undergraduate Study Program, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universitas Sumatera Utara (Fasilkom-TI USU) together with BMKG held a public lecture for teaching practitioners with the theme “Mengenal Kebencanaan di Sumatera Utara Berdasarkan Multibencana Geo-Hidrometerologi Berbasis AI”  on Friday, March 18, 2022 via  online platform (Zoom). This public lecture invited Dr. Marzuki Sinambela, M.T who is a researcher at BMKG Regional 1 Medan.

The general practitioner lecture which was attended by lecturers and students of Computer Science Fasilkom-TI was opened by Mrs. Dr. Amalia, ST., M.T. as Head of Undergraduate Program in Computer Science, Fasilkom-TI. Then guided by Mrs. Hayatunnufus, S.Kom, M.Cs. as a moderator, the presenter delivered learning materials that focused on understanding geo-hydrometeorological disasters in North Sumatra which were important to be introduced in detail. After the delivery of the material, a question and answer session was held to answer student questions related to the material presented by the speaker.

By holding a public lecture for practitioners on Knowing Disaster in North Sumatra Based on AI-Based Geo-Hydrometerology Multi-Disaster in the Computer Science study program, it is hoped that this can be used as a research innovation for lecturers and students to improve understanding of geo-hydrometeorological disasters in the community, especially in North Sumatra.

"We must be optimistic, every geo-hydrometeorological disaster that occurs there must be a solution, disasters in North Sumatra are always unique, the effects are also different, no one is ever ready when a disaster occurs, but we can be more prepared than yesterday, we will better prepared tomorrow than today," said Dr. Marzuki.

It is hoped that this general practitioner lecture activity will encourage lecturers and students to be able to collaborate for research and service with BMKG as a government institution that has main tasks in the fields of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics.
