Rodent Watch Team from USU Wins Asia-Pacific Global Health Innovation Hackathon 2025

Medan, January 2025 — Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) proudly announces that its Rodent Watch Team has won 1st place at the prestigious Asia-Pacific Global Health Innovation Hackathon 2025, hosted by SingHealth.

The team comprises experts from multiple disciplines:

  • Dr. Sunna Vyatra Hutagalung, MS, Ph.D – Faculty of Medicine, USU

  • Dr. Anita Zainunah, S.Hut., M.Sc. – Faculty of Forestry, USU

  • Dr. Erna Budhiarti Nababan, M.IT – Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, USU

  • Drh. Rita Rosmala Dewi, M.Si., Ph.D – Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Teuku Umar

Their winning project leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to help understand, predict, and reduce the impact of zoonotic diseases. The cross-disciplinary collaboration and innovative approach led them to outshine teams from across the Asia-Pacific region. A special highlight goes to Dr. Erna Budhiarti Nababan for her exceptional contribution.

This victory not only elevates USU’s global reputation but also serves as a strong inspiration for the younger generation to innovate in tackling global health challenges.
