Medan, August 18, 2026 — The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (Fasilkom-TI), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held the 2026 Fasilkom-TI USU Campus Life Introduction Program for New Students (PKKMB) on August 12–14, 2026. Carrying the theme “Compile the Code, Compose the Future” and the tagline “Discover Potential, Create Innovation, Advance Fasilkom-TI,” the event provided new students with an opportunity to become familiar with the academic environment, student organizations, and various opportunities for personal development throughout their studies at Fasilkom-TI USU.
Over the three-day program, new students participated in a series of activities designed to introduce them to university life while fostering character, creativity, togetherness, and a spirit of innovation.
Day One: Getting to Know the Campus and Building Character

The PKKMB series began on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, with new student registration at the FISIP USU Twin Field. The activities continued with the opening ceremony of PKKMB USU 2026, which featured the singing of Indonesia Raya, the USU March and Hymn, a prayer, remarks by the Chairperson of the USU Student Executive Board (BEM), a report on the PKKMB USU 2026 activities, as well as guidance and directions from the Rector of USU.
One of the highlights of the opening ceremony was the presentation of almamater jackets by the Rector of USU and the handover of new students to their respective faculties. Following the university-level opening ceremony, the new students were then mobilized to Fasilkom-TI to participate in faculty-level activities.
Upon arrival at Fasilkom-TI, the new students were welcomed through a series of faculty introductions, including a report by the Chairperson of the Fasilkom-TI PKKMB Committee, remarks by the Chairperson of BEM Fasilkom-TI, and remarks and an introduction to the faculty leadership by the Dean of Fasilkom-TI, Dr. Maya Silvi Lydia, B.Sc., M.Sc.
The first day continued with various sessions focused on character building and broadening students’ perspectives. The topics included national character development, global leadership, national defense awareness, strengthening national identity, the transformation of Indonesia’s higher education system in the 21st century, higher education transformation in the digital era and Society 5.0, and strengthening the character of outstanding students with a global competitive orientation.
Day Two: Exploring Potential, Academics, and Life at Fasilkom-TI

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, the new students began the day with registration and morning exercise. The sessions then focused on various facilities, programs, services, and personal development opportunities available to students.
The topics included Kampus Berdampak and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Student Creativity Program (PKM), PUSPRESMA, the Library, the Academic Information System (SIA), the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS), P4GN and disaster preparedness, as well as an introduction to the Professors Council. These sessions provided a broader overview of student life, both academically and through extracurricular personal development.
Following the sessions, the new students were introduced to BEM, followed by a Faculty Tour to become more familiar with the Fasilkom-TI environment. The activities continued with introductions to each study program involving HIMATIF and IMILKOM.
The atmosphere became more interactive through Fun Games, which served as an opportunity to build teamwork and strengthen relationships among the new students.
Day Three: Expression, Creativity, and Closing
The final day of the 2026 Fasilkom-TI USU PKKMB took place on Friday, August 14, 2026. The activities began with registration and an attribute check, followed by morning exercise and the opening session.
The highlight of the day was Ekspresi Berdampak, a series of performances by new students that provided a platform for them to showcase their creativity and individual potential. The students also participated in a talent showcase, further demonstrating the diversity of abilities and interests among the new students of Fasilkom-TI.
Towards the end of the PKKMB series, the students were invited to look back on their experiences through a PKKMB video review. The program continued with the announcement of group nominations and the distribution of awards, a closing statement, and the announcement of the Fasilkom-TI PKKMB Ambassadors.
The 2026 Fasilkom-TI USU PKKMB officially concluded at 11:00 a.m., followed by a group documentation session.
The Beginning of a Journey at Fasilkom-TI
The three-day 2026 Fasilkom-TI USU PKKMB was more than just a welcoming event for new students. It served as an initial step for students to understand the academic environment, become familiar with the academic community, build relationships with fellow students, and discover various opportunities to develop their potential.
Through the theme “Compile the Code, Compose the Future,” new students were encouraged to view their university journey not merely as a process of acquiring knowledge, but also as an opportunity to shape their future through creativity, innovation, collaboration, and strong character.
With the spirit of “Discover Potential, Create Innovation, Advance Fasilkom-TI,” the 2026 Fasilkom-TI USU PKKMB is expected to serve as the starting point for new students to grow, create, and make a positive impact on the campus community and society.
