Medan, July 29, 2026 — The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (Fasilkom-TI) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) organized a Visiting Professor program featuring Prof. Dr. Arun Kumar Sangaiah, Professor at the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech). The Visiting Professor program was held from July 20–29, 2026, at Universitas Sumatera Utara.
The Visiting Professor program was part of Fasilkom-TI USU’s academic initiatives to strengthen international collaboration, advance research, and improve academic quality within the faculty.
During his Visiting Professor program at USU, Prof. Dr. Arun Kumar Sangaiah participated in various academic activities involving faculty leaders, lecturers, heads of study programs, and doctoral students. The activities included:
- Focus Group Discussion (FGD) “How to Build a Research Group” with Fasilkom-TI USU lecturers.
- Focus Group Discussion (FGD) “How to Build a Proper AI Laboratory”.
- Discussion with Host Lecturers about Research Collaboration.
- Focus Group Discussion (FGD) “International Accreditation” with Heads of Study Programs.
- Coaching Clinic with Doctoral Students.
- Focus Group Discussion (FGD) “Strategy to Find Novelty in Computer Science Research” with doctoral students.
- Focus Group Discussion (FGD) “Writing and Submitting a Scientific Article in a Reputable Journal” with doctoral students.
The series of activities provided an opportunity for the Fasilkom-TI USU academic community to gain insights and experience from an international academic, particularly in research group development, Artificial Intelligence (AI), strategies for identifying research novelty, international accreditation, and scientific publication in reputable journals.
In addition, the Visiting Professor program created opportunities to expand academic networks and develop potential international research collaborations between Fasilkom-TI USU and the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech).
Through the implementation of this Visiting Professor program, Fasilkom-TI USU reaffirmed its commitment to fostering an academic environment that is open to international knowledge and experience exchange. The presence of Prof. Dr. Arun Kumar Sangaiah is expected to contribute positively to the advancement of education and research while encouraging various forms of sustainable academic collaboration.
This program represents one of Fasilkom-TI USU’s efforts to strengthen faculty internationalization, improve research quality, and build global academic partnerships toward a more excellent and internationally competitive Fasilkom-TI USU.
