The delegation of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) managed to record brilliant achievements in the prestigious ASEAN Intervarsity Youth Competition (AIYC) held at Prince of Songkhla University, Hat Yai, on June 6-8, 2024. USU representatives consisted of Siti Nur Salsabila from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology as Ambassador 1, Haris Fadhillah Nasution from the Faculty of Engineering as Ambassador 2, and Enrico Franditho Sihombing from the Faculty of Medicine as Ambassador 3, accompanied by Dr. Rulianda Purnomo Wibowo, SP., M.Ec. as supervisor.
With the theme "ASEAN Youth Volunteerism for SDGs," AIYC 2024 aims to connect youth from various ASEAN countries, create networking value, and develop innovative ideas to improve the success of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event brings together young delegates from across ASEAN to compete in three main categories: speech competition, ASEAN quiz competition, and community-based tourism volunteer hackathon.
AIYC 2024 took place over three days. On the first day, the delegates participated in the preliminary rounds for the speech competition and ASEAN quiz, as well as the group division for the volunteer hackathon. On the second day, the participants were invited to visit Koo Nam Rop village to create new innovations that can increase the village's tourism attractiveness.
The highlight of the event occurred on the third day with the presentation of the volunteer hackathon results and the final speech competition, ending with the closing ceremony. In the speech competition, Siti Nur Salsabila won the 2nd runner up position.
AIYC 2024 was attended by several renowned universities such as Gajah Mada University, Mara University of Technology, Prince of Songkla University, Airlangga University, and Thaksin University. The achievements made by the USU SDGs ambassadors at AIYC are expected to be a motivation to continue to excel in the international arena. This success also shows that USU is able to compete and make a positive contribution in the ASEAN youth forum. With this achievement, it is hoped that USU can continue to make more achievements in future international competitions.
