Medan — Another proud achievement has been accomplished by students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universitas Sumatera Utara (Fasilkom-TI USU). The Literaku Team from the Undergraduate Computer Science Program has successfully advanced to the Top 22 semifinalists of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious student technology innovation competitions.

This accomplishment places Literaku alongside innovations from globally renowned universities such as Stanford University, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), University of California Berkeley, and Northwestern University.

Literaku is the first digital literacy application in Indonesia specifically designed for visually impaired users with a fully voice-command-based system. The application addresses the ongoing literacy gap, where millions of visually impaired individuals still have limited access to accessible reading materials. The team currently advancing to the semifinal round consists of Farhan Ar Rahman, Clara Angelin Pijoh, Rifki Al Sauqy, and Muhammad Rizky Fadhillah, and is further developed together with Khairul Imam.

Since its initial development in 2022, Literaku has achieved numerous recognitions, including becoming a finalist in the National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) after passing the National Student Creativity Program, winning 1st place in the Best Disability Quality of Life Improvement Solution category at Innovillage 2023, and securing 1st place at Youth Ideannovation 2023 organized by CIAS and Rumah Kepemimpinan.

Today, Literaku has evolved beyond a social project into a sustainable platform that balances social impact with operational scalability. The team is currently undergoing coaching and mentoring sessions with global industry experts from Microsoft as part of their preparation for the World Championship stage of the Imagine Cup 2026.

Fasilkom-TI USU extends its highest appreciation for this achievement and hopes that the Literaku Team will continue to bring pride to Universitas Sumatera Utara and Indonesia on the international stage, achieving the best possible results in the competition.
